This French 8 Day Mantle Clock by Japy Frères & Cie, is in Excellent Condition, c1850. The case is of Black Belgian marble with accents in Cherry Red marble set on a rosewood base. The clock must be wound once every eight days. It strikes the number of hours on the hour, and once at the half-hour. The works are signed “Japy Frères & Cie, Medal D’ Honneur” and they are stamped with the serial number 11240 and part number 40. The pendulum is 2” in length. A previous repair is noted on the works with the inscription “EMX2.87.” This clock has recently been repaired, cleaned, oiled and adjusted and is in working condition. Founded by Frederic Japy of Beaucount (b. 1749), Japy Frères & Cie became the largest clock making company in France, supplying movements for some of France’s greatest sculptors and cabinet makers, like François Linke. This Pair of French Neoclassical Athénienne styled Cassolettes, c.1870 in the manner of Pierre Gouthiere are in Excellent Condition. Raised on gilt supports topped by horned water masks and ending in hooves, surrounding a coiled serpent. In white marble and bronze, this pair is based on a design used by Pierre Gouthiere (1732 - 1813.) This Pair of French Barbotine Vases, c. late 19th century are in excellent condition,c1880. Featuring Earthenware with a distinctive brown glaze and applied blooming irises and butterflies. With some chips and cracking, normal for ceramics of this age, and an interior that boasts a luminescent blue glaze. This pair of vases are more elegant in their decoration than much Barbotine produced in France during the last quarter of the 19th century.
