This Walnut Mirror from the Province of Liguria, c. 1860 is in Very Good Overall Condition. Fashioned in the Rococo style, and surmounted by a rocaille crested rail composed of “C” and “S” scrolls and accented with trailing gilt floral garlands that wrap around the moulded framing and occasionally poke over the edges of the glass. The mirror is supported on scrolled feet with rocaille accents. There is some damage to the glass. This Venetian Mirror Frame is in Excellent Overall Condition,c. mid-18th century. Featuring Large and exuberantly carved with gilding and polychrome finish. The Venetians were first to perfect the glass making essential to mirror production. The authorities went so far as to prevent glass makers from leaving Venice or its lagoon islands, on pain of death, to secure the secret of glass production.
