This Fabulous Chesterfield Leather Sofa is in Excellent Overall Condition,c1900. The chesterfield style sofa, which first appeared in 1880, is the first sofa to make good use of spring upholstery. No one knows whether its name derived from the Earls of Chesterfield or the Derby-shire town. Our example is upholstered in tan leather with deep buttons creating a cushioned look over the entire surface of the sofa. This Rare Provincial English Oak Mule Chest Versatile in Design Use & is in Excellent Condition, c. 1725. Features a rare and unusual hand carved chest with a rich patina and wooden wheels. The body of the chest retains much of the original iron banding, carrying handles and hardware. The shape apron is fitted with a small drawer flanked by two carved rosettes, situated under two carved arched panels. The interior contains compartments originally used to store candles or other precious goods. The Mule Chest is a form first made in the 17th Century which began the transition of the traditional chest into a chest of drawers. Measures 15.75" deep x 26" wide x 21" tall.
