This Inviting Italian Oil on Canvas "Sunset in Calvi Corsica" signed Vincent is in Excellent Condition. The Painting measures 30" x 40" and is shown in a nice display frame that is sold separately , fantastic for numerous designs. Born June 19th,1938, Vincent comes from a family of longstanding artistic fame. His grandfather, P.G. Rigaud was a post-impressionist painter, his uncle Jean Rigaud, a well-known seascape artist, his father a caricaturist under the name of Caza and his brother Philip CAZA a comic strip author. It was only natural that he should follow in their footsteps. After training with uncle Jean Rigaud, he entered the Grande Chaumière Academy under the tutorship of Yves Brayer and later joined the Port Royal Academy, directed by Claude Schurr. At the same period he started a career as a theater set designer. His main inspiration comes from landscapes. Traveling from Provence to Italy and Spain, sometimes focusing on the Luberon or Riviera area, he is foremost attracted by the sunlight. However, he also feels inspired by the skies of Brittany or the Loire valley and by the iridescent light of the French Isles. He paints with oil on canvas and travels widely in search of sunlit Mediterranean villages and hidden inlets shimmering with turquoise water. His international stature is revealed in various exhibitions in Germany, Spain and the U.S. He also shows yearly at the Salon D'automne and Salon des Indépendants in Paris. $11,000 USD

This English School Oil on Canvas, “Girl with a Dog” is in Excellent Condition,c1750. Featuring a sweet portrait of a young girl affectionately petting her adoring dog. Dogs carry rich symbolic meaning in the history of art, most commonly used to represent fidelity. This portrait is an interesting document of the changing societal structure in 18th century England. As the middle classes began to grow and the new bourgeois class began to covet the trappings of the aristocracy, portraits became a popular expression of newly accumulated wealth and prestige. The inclusion in this portrait of a dog also has allusions to social status, as family pets with no practical function other than amusement were considered an expression of luxury and affluence. The young girl is dressed in a simple but elegant frock trimmed in lace, another clue to the affluence and social status of this young child’s family. However, the simplicity of the dress, with little ornament indicates that she and her family were a part of the new bourgeois, rather than the aristocracy. Measuring 1/2” D x 20” W x 25” H it is unframed. Please view and zoom closely, serious inquiries are welcome!

This Darling "Artist's Still Life", signed Carol Slobin is in Excellent Condition.A native Texan, Carol Slobin was born in Houston, and recently moved her home and studio to Sugar Land, Texas. Carol attended the University of Texas and graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Carol has developed a body of work rich in still-lifes, figures and landscapes. Her approach to any subject is the same - to excite the viewer and to impart a glimpse of her perspective on life. Her love of nature and the beauty of any scene whether complex or mundane is the inspiration by which she paints. Luminous color, light and shadow, and a dynamic composition are often the driving force behind a finished painting. Oil and watercolor are the mediums that she has found to be most rewarding and challenging. The painterly effects of wet into wet (alla prima) oil painting, and the luminous glazes and spontaneity of watercolor are the appealing qualities that attract Carol to paint in those two mediums. Carol has been inspired by Sargent, Homer, Velasquez, and Sorolla among others. She studied watercolor painting with Marge Brichler, life drawing with Jose Perez, and portrait painting with Lajos Markos. Through the years, she has attended workshops that included Daniel Greene, Robert Wood, Judi Betts, Dan Burt, Carl Dalio, John Asaro, Bob Rohm, Ann Templeton, Dan Gerhartz, David Leffel, and Matt Smith.
