$5,000 USD

This Oil on Canvas, "Aspres Cassis, French Riviera", Vincent, is in Excellent Condition. Born June 19th, 1938, Vincent comes from a family of longstanding artistic fame. His grandfather, P.G. Rigaud was a post-impressionist painter, his uncle Jean Rigaud, a well-known seascape artist, his father a caricaturist under the name of Caza and his brother Philip CAZA a comic strip author. It was only natural that he should follow in their footsteps. After training with uncle Jean Rigaud, he entered the Grande Chaumière Academy under the tutorship of Yves Brayer and later joined the Port Royal Academy, directed by Claude Schurr. At the same period he started a career as a theater set designer. His main inspiration comes from landscapes. Traveling from Provence to Italy and Spain, sometimes focusing on the Luberon or Riviera area, he is foremost attracted by the sunlight. However, he also feels inspired by the skies of Brittany or the Loire valley and by the iridescent light of the French Isles. He paints with oil on canvas and travels widely in search of sunlit Mediterranean villages and hidden inlets shimmering with turquoise water. His international stature is revealed in various exhibitions in Germany, Spain and the U.S. He also shows yearly at the Salon D'automne and Salon des Indépendants in Paris. This Oil on Canvas, "L'Eglise et la paroisse du village", Raymond Thibèsart, (French,1874 - 1968) is in Excellent Condition. Son of an affluent family, Raymond Thibesart was born in Troyes, France on May 2, 1874. Soon after, the Thibesart's moved to the small town of Enghien outside of Paris. It was here that Raymond first began to study art with Venezuelan Impressionist master Emile Boggio at the age of eleven. He later began his formal art education at the Lycée Rollin in Paris. He entered the l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1894, followed by the Acadèmie Julian in Paris where his teachers Jules Lefevre and Tony Robert Fleury introduced him to the Symbolist Movement which heavily influenced the early part of his career. At the turn of the century, Thibesart spent much time in Southern France and Italy painting with Boggio and Henri Martin. From this time on, Thibesart worked in the Post-Impressionist style. He often traveled to Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and Corsica to record the landscape. With great enthusiasm and energy, he used pastels to sketch the light, the passage of the wind, the flowering trees, the mornings of white frost or snow, the agricultural work, and the aura of these lands. In the tranquility of his workshop, these colored chalk drawings allowed him to execute oil paintings that retained the spontaneity and beauty of his subjects. Thibesart exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris where he was a Silver Medalist in 1922; at the Salon des Indépendants; and at the Salon d'Automne. He was a member of the Societé des Artistes Francais from 1897, Member Salon des Indépendents since 1905, and a member of the Salon d'Automne, Paris. His work is found in the following public and private collections: the Salon des Artistes Français, the Contempory Art Gallery, Paris, Gallery Georges Petit, Paris, the Galerie des Champs-Elysees, Paris, the National Museum of Caracus, France, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Troyes, France. This Mesmerizing Oil on Canvas, "Virgin at the Foot of the Cross ", Paul Delaroche, (French, 1797-1856) is in Excellent Condition. In his study on Delaroche, Norman Ziff notes that the artist “was concerned with the problem of how to create religious paintings which would genuinely excite modern audiences.” On this perplexing matter he wrote to a friend: 'I have a thousand confused thoughts in my head, and not one that I dare execute. If we lived in another time, I would execute a Deposition lifesize, and I would try to prove that I know how to idealize when it comes to Our Lord and his mother; but the general poetic no longer exists. Without becoming complacent, one would not misunderstand public sentiment, if one wishes to appeal to eyes and understanding hearts. I have never prostrated myself before the fashion of the day; but I have always thought that one can produce very serious art in serving the ideas which have preoccupied our society for the last 60 years. I believe that I am as right today as yesterday. One must be a truly great genius to carry the crowd with as much fervor and sympathy before the last goodbyes of the Virgin to her son as before [Marie-Antoinette], martyred yesterday, condemned to death by political passions.”(Louis Ulbach, "Paul Delaroche," Revue de Paris, XXXVI, April 1, 1857, p. 359; quoted by Ziff, pp. 242-43). This specific theme was in fact treated by the artist twice, first in the present painting of 1851, then in a larger canvas of 1853 now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Liège. The pose of the Virgin is identical in both works, but in the Liège version (which measures 176 x 130 cm) her entire figure is visible as are the gnarled feet of Christ nailed to the cross. The setting of Golgotha is evident and the intent, it would seem, narrative. By contrast in our picture Christ is present only by implication -- the red trail of blood on the cross -- and the focus is on the intense emotional state of the weeping Virgin. The present painting achieved some celebrity in the nineteenth century, as witnessed by its reproduction in such diverse forms as KPM porcelain plaques and mosaics. Norman D. Ziff, Paul Delaroche; A Study in Nineteenth-Century French History Painting. New York-London 1977, p. 299, cat. no. 187 Measuring Framed size is 36 x 28", Canvas Alone is 24 1/2 X 16", Serious Inquiries are Welcome!

$14,000 USD

This Oil on Canvas, "Flowering Villa at Lago di Lugano", Alois Arnegger, (Austrian, 1879 - 1967) is in Excellent Condition. Alois Arnegger was born in 1879 in Vienna. He studied at the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Vienna under the instruction of Robert Russ (1867-1922) and August Eisenmenger (1830-1907). It was here he developed his skills as a portrait and landscape painter. At the beginning of his career he was known for his painting of Austrian landscape scenes. However, he traveled to Italy in the 1920s and became enamored by the Mediterranean coast. This motivated him to paint many scenes from the Mediterranean landscapes and coastlines--brilliant and vibrant views of Capri, San Remo and Naples. The constant change in seasonal and climatic variations of the rural regions intrigued Arnegger, who painted the same subjects over and over in different weather and conditions. Later in his life, Arnegger returned to his homeland of Austria where he continued to paint landscapes and Alpine scenes. He died in his hometown of Vienna in 1963. Arnegger's works have sold in galleries around the world including New York, Stuttgart, Vienna, Amsterdam, Paris, Stockholm, Munich and Chicago. His son Gottfried Arnegger was also a painter. Arnegger's mastery of the romantic and mesmerizing Italian villa along the lake district in Italy is reflective of his colorful and lively style. The vibrancy of the colors is painted with soft brushstrokes showing tonal values throughout the landscape. The rendering of architecture is accurately in proportion and balanced by the heavy foliage surrounding the buildings. The background's mountainous terrain is small in scale compared to the Villa, suggesting depth perception to the viewer. Flowering Villa at Lago di Lugano illustrates the true natural beauty of the Italian Lake District and its encapsulating appeal executed in great detail. $24,000 USD

This Oil on Canvas, "Still Life with Nest", John Wainwright, (British, act. 1845-1873) is in Excellent Condition. Wainwright is renowned for his floral still life's and was greatly influenced by the Dutch masters. He flourished as a painter between 1845 and 1873. Wainwright exhibited at Suffolk Street and the British Institute in London. His works are also included in the Tate Collection, London. As in the case of Wainwright's model, Jan van Os (Dutch, 1744-1808), (well known in England), these floral arrangements are artificial creations combining the flowers of different seasons, displayed in a precious vessel too small to hold them comfortably. In the Dutch tradition such pieces were often representations of the horticultural collections of wealthy patrons, but Wainwright seems to have embraced this highly traditional style for purely decorative reasons. At the same time, his pictures are 'modern' in the sense the flowers tend to be recognizable Victorian specimens. Wainwright also often included small bird's nests with decorative eggs and exotic insects adding a naturalistic aspect to the decorative work. In "Still Life with Nest", dated 1845, Wainwright included a pastoral landscape in the background. Lilies, pansies, and other bright flowers adorn the arrangement. A small bee and two butterflies discreetly fly around the floral arrangement. This painting is in its original carved and gilded frame, Framed size is 33 1/2 x 29 1/2 ", 25 X 21 1/2", canvas alone.
