This Beautiful Pair of Italian Majolica Chargers are in Excellent Condition,c.1880. Featuring the Renaissance Style of pottery painting known as Istoriato, (history plates). This style of painting originated in Italy in the 16th Century, the subjects are Biblical, Historical or Mythological scenes which imitated Fresco's or paintings. These plates depict two scenes of Moses along a border of cobalt ground with Raffellesco detail surrounding the center medallion. One plate is less curved in the center so they are not a perfect match however for pottery of the period no two plates are exactly the same. Measuring 16.5" in diameter.
