| This Rare Provincial English Oak Mule Chest Versatile in Design Use & is in Excellent Condition, c. 1725. Features a rare and unusual hand carved chest with a rich patina and wooden wheels. The body of the chest retains much of the original iron banding, carrying handles and hardware. The shape apron is fitted with a small drawer flanked by two carved rosettes, situated under two carved arched panels. The interior contains compartments originally used to store candles or other precious goods. The Mule Chest is a form first made in the 17th Century which began the transition of the traditional chest into a chest of drawers. Measures 15.75" deep x 26" wide x 21" tall.
