| These Rare Portuguese Mannequins are in Excellent Condition, c.18th Century. This pair is part of a suite of six mannequins originally commissioned for the Duchess of Croÿ. It is thought that the Duchess used the larger mannequin for gowns displayed in her private chambers at the Chateau in Condé-Sur-L’Escaut (Northern France). Hermitage Antiques, Ltd. purchased two pair of mannequins and the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia purchased the remaining pair. The faces are carved and painted, the larger figure has painted glass eyes. The torsos are solid, with movable joints at the shoulders and the elbows. Below the torsos are open slats that radiate down to join the solid carved bases. The ornate bases are carved with swirling clouds. The base of the smaller mannequin is centered by a winged cherub face fitted with glass eyes. Both are raised on a pedestal foot. Measuring Large Figure: 18 ¾”D x 25”W x 61 ½”H Petite Figure: 16”D x 16”W x 52”H, priced as each. Please view and zoom all pictures, serious inquiries are welcome!
